Minimum Professional Requirements – Cambridge Speaking Examiner

  • Education to first degree level or equivalent;
  • A recognised language teaching qualification;
  • Proof of substantial, relevant, recent teaching experience.
  • For the Young Learners English tests (YLE), applicants should have recent experience of dealing with children, either socially or professionally, and must be prepared to sign a declaration that they are suitably responsible to examine children.

English language competences

  • Overall language proficiency relevant to the examination level ;
  • Clear diction including intelligibility outside the region/country where examining takes place;
  • Linguistic accuracy;
  • Ability to judge the grammatical accuracy, acceptability and appropriateness of spoken English at the relevant examination level

Personal qualities and inter-personal skills

  • Willingness to observe the need for confidentiality and security in all aspects of the work;
  • Responsibility, conscientiousness, with an attention to detail;
  • Ability to interact appropriately with the type of candidates for the examination in question in such a way as to ensure that the candidates provide an adequate sample of English representative of their speaking ability;
  • Readiness to respond to Team Leader guidance and advice given in the context of training/certification meetings, monitoring, or informally.

Administrative

  • Access to PC and broadband for standardisation and other online activities;
  • The aptitude to fulfil the administrative aspects of performing in the role of SE expected by a Centre Exams Manager, e.g. responsible, dependable, able to maintain confidentiality of the work involved (test materials, assessments, etc.), showing attention to detail, flexible, sensitive to impact on supplier schools

Apply for a job We are looking for qualified teachers to teach a range of courses for children, teenagers and adults at all levels, face-to-face or online. Applicants must be willing to be active, flexible participants in a hard-working team of teachers. A strong commitment to purposeful teaching, collaborative planning and open communication is essential. The position involves:

  • An average of 20/25 teaching hours per week, face-to-face and/or online
  • Lessons Monday to Friday, 4/5 teaching hours per day, mornings, afternoons or evenings (end max 21.45). Saturdays are not normally working days, except during peak exam periods when teachers are asked to invigilate exams or act as Cambridge speaking examiners (Speaking exams only for qualified teachers with a minimum of 3 years’ experience and trained for the role)
  • Course administration: e.g. report writing and completing registers; attending teachers’ meetings
  • Teaching on and off site

Minimum Requirements:

  • University degree
  • CELTA or equivalent accredited teaching qualification
  • Native English speaker
  • Teaching experience preferred but not compulsory

  • A flexible and willing approach to various duties

Other preferred requirements (not compulsory)

  • European driving license and willingness to drive
  • General teaching experience
  • Teaching experience with young learners/teenagers
  • Teaching Cambridge exam preparation courses
  • EU citizenship or Work Visa (required by Italian employment law)
  • Experience as a Cambridge speaking examiner Other teaching qualifications: e.g. Delta, MA, CELTYL
  • Basic knowledge of Italian

Salary and Benefits

  • Teachers are hired on a fixed-term contract for the duration of the academic year (Oct-June). This is open to being renewed for the following academic year.
  • Along with a monthly salary, teachers are also paid 2 extra months (1 extra month?) in a 12 month period: as a lump sum in December or split into monthly payments. There is also Severance Pay at the end of the contract. If the contract is shorter than 12 months then the above benefits are calculated as a proportion of the number of months worked.
  • The contract is normally full time (25 hours per week), but part time is also an option, depending on teachers’ preference/availability or other circumstances.
  • Travel expenses are refunded when teaching is off site and at a distance from the school/office. The salary may vary depending on experience and qualifications, and ranges from € 1.250,00 to €1.350,00.00 net per month. Paid sick leave
  • One month paid holidays for a 12 month contract or calculated proportionally Free Cambridge Speaking Examiner training (for teachers with a minimum of 3 years’ teaching experience)
